2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon V177 and LWB version Z177

Having teased us with the reveal of its China market-only A-Class L Sedan, Mercedes-Benz has trimmed the wheelbase and included the rest of the world.

THERE IS DEMAND

According to Britta Seeger, member of the board of management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars marketing and sales, the A-Class hatch’s strong marketplace start has created a gap for a new alternative to the hatch for those with greater space requirements. “It will enable us to win new customers for Mercedes- Benz,” adds Seeger.

IT’S NO DRAG

Mercedes-Benz has made the bold claim the A-Class Sedan has the lowest drag of any production vehicle in the world. Facets such as improved seals around the headlamps, extensive underbody panelling and wheelarches designed to route air efficiently around the wheels contribute to a Cd figure of just 0,22.

ENGINES: ONE OF EACH

Engine options at launch comprise the A200’s 1,3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit (120 kW/250 N.m) and A180d’s 1,5-litre turbodiesel (85 kW/260 N.m), both coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

TECH & STYLE

Standard features on the entry-level model will include the MBUX touchscreen infotainment system and a raft of passive and semi-autonomous driving-assistance systems. The expected design and equipment lines (Style, Progressive and AMG Line) will also be offered.
