2019 Mercedes-Benz X-Class Baureihe 470 pick-up gets Maybach panache

X-Class pick-up gets Maybach panache. They say there’s no accounting for taste, and the latest iteration of the Mercedes X-Class pick-up may just be proof of that.

The X-Class ‘Yachting Edition’ is not an official model, we should add, but the brainchild of Polish tuning company Carlex, which claims it wants to bring ‘Maybach levels of luxury’ to the Mercedes-badged pick-up, despite its ladder-frame chassis and Nissan Navara running gear.

The Yachting Edition even features the same Nappa Porzellan leather as featured in the most expensive models to wear the three-pointed star, which are sold primarily in the Far East.

Indeed, each pick-up comes with a pair of matching Nappa gloves, finished in the same material, to keep your hands clean should your ‘yacht’ be small enough to be hitched up to the X-Class’s tow bar The full-grain leather is used to wrap sporty Recaro seats finished with ornate stitching, contrasting with open-pore wood veneers used on the seatbacks and dashboard. On the outside, wheels and a grille pinched from the Maybach S650 Cabriolet join a carbon fibre body kit, teaklined load bay (yes, really…) and limited edition badges.

The Carlex conversion costs around £50,000 on top of the purchase price of the standard pick-up, putting it at a similar price level to a high-spec SL.
