Treatment includes new 500bhp air-cooled Williams flat-six The latest stunning design by the Californian firm that specializes in ‘re-imagining’ Porsche 911swas Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The 1989 Porsche 911 Re-imagined by Singer Vehicle Designuses the results of a Dynamics and Lighting Study (DLS) byF1’s Williams Advanced Engineering.

EIGHTIES PORSCHE 911 ‘RE-I AGINED’

The project began in November 2017 when Singer client Scott Blattner wanted lightweight and high performance treatments for his Porsche 964. Williams has developed a 4.0-litre air-cooled flat-six engine with titanium valves that produces 500bhp at 9000rpm. Magnesium and other light-weight materials were used to reduce mass, and the throttle bodies have F1-inspired upper and lower injectors to enhance performance and driveability, while the oiling system has been optimized to improve lubrication and cooling. Legendary Porsche engine builder Hans Mezger was also instrumental in its development.

On the exterior, every surface has been scrutinized through computational fluid dynamics analysis, we’re informed, and front axle lift has been eliminated by redesigning the front oil-cooler intake and venting, plus a redesigned front splitter. The ducktail rear spoiler and roof/channel and rear window spoiler have been seamlessly integrated to improve airflow.

It’s got a bespoke Hewland six-speed Gearbox with magnesium casings with Hollow shafts for maximum reduction of rotating mass. It’s also been fitted with bespoke Brembo carbon ceramic dampers and monobloc calipers, while Michelin developed Pilot Sport Cup 2s specifically for this car’s wheel size. BBS, Recaro and Momo all developed bespoke magnesium wheels, carbonfibre sports seats and steering wheel (respectively) for the study.

Obviously we all approve and are deeply envious of Mr Blattner. Yes, even Nathan. You’ll find more details and computational dynamics talk at singervehicledesign.com
