Singer’s DLS breaks cover Outstanding reception at Goodwood public debut for all-new, $1.8 million re-imagined 911… Singer Vehicle Design’s new DLS – Dynamics and Lightweight Study – of the Porsche 964 has made a stunning world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

A client-inspired collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering – part of the Williams Grand Prix Engineering Group – and a formation of technical partners from the world of Porsche, including one Hans Mezger and Norbert Singer, the DLS project has produced the most advanced air-cooled Porsche 911 in the world. Two DLS examples made their public bow at Goodwood, one finished in Heart Attack red with black interior taking to the Goodwood hillclimb while its sister car in Parallax white with Norfolk yellow interior sat proudly on display outside Goodwood house.

Undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking re-imaginings of a Porsche 911 of all time, the DLS project boasts an exquisite, never-before-seen attention to detail and a truly mouth-watering specification. Headline stats include a 500hp, 4.0-litre engine developed with Williams Advanced Engineering under that consultancy of Porsche engineering legend Mezger. The M64 engine, bored out to 4.0-litres, has been moved forwards by approximately an inch. Williams also oversaw suspension and aerodynamics for the DLS, with consultancy by Porsche racing icon Norbert Singer, with mass efficiency and core optimisation providing a sprightly 990kg weight. Advanced control systems including ABS and switchable driving modes are the result of a partnership with Stuttgart-based tech experts, Bosch.

This behemoth of a project has seen Singer link with other key automotive partners from around the world including BBS, who exclusively manufactured the centre-locking, Fuchs-style lightweight alloys; Brembo for the carbon ceramics; and Michelin, who supplied bespokesized Pilot Sport Cup 2s measuring 245/35/18 up front and 295/30/18 rear. Recaro partnered with the project in producing lightweight carbon-fibre sports seats, while MOMO were sought to develop a specific carbon-fibre steering wheel.

Costing approximately $1.8 million per commission, a Singer spokesperson told Total 911 approximately half of the limited run of 75 cars were already spoken for. The DLS project will make its Stateside debut at Monterey Car Week beginning August 23.
