Ten Million Ford Mustangs

America’s best-selling sports car has just produced its 10 millionth model, which is an impressive achievement. The 10 millionth model is the 460hp 2019 GT V8 six-speed version, painted in Wimbledon White. Why that colour? The first serialised Mustang (VIN 001), produced back in 1964, was the same colour, although that model had ‘only’ 164bhp and a three-speed gearbox. The ten millionth model was built at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan and to celebrate, workers enjoyed a flyover from three World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighters.

According to Ford, the Mustang outsold the Porsche 911 in 13 European markets last year and an impressive 7000 have been sold in the UK since 2016, with some 38,000 across Europe for the same period. Of course, those of us with age on our side will remember only one Mustang, the 1968 version driven by Steve McQueen in the Warner Brothers film, Bullitt. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film, a new Mustang Bullitt (pictured below) is available now, with prices starting at £47,145. Obviously, these models are painted in a colour close to the original, now called Dark Highland Green and there will be the necessary Bullitt design signatures. High gloss black finish alloy wheels are fitted and the model will have a special edition interior, complete with a B&O PLAY premium stereo system. Power comes from the 5.0-litre V8, with all the accompanying noise that can make!
