This is only the fourth McLaren Longtail, after the F1 GTR, 675LT Coupe and Spider…

McLaren longtail

The trend to build longer rear ends to a race car to aid downforce and grip for powerful racers probably gained traction (sic) with Porsche and its awesome 917. McLaren followed this trend with its Le Mans racer the F1 GTR Longtail and this has continued with its latest version the 600LT. This is actually only the fourth McLaren to be given the ‘Longtail’ name (F1 GTR, 675LT Coupe and Spider). The new 600LT is extremely light, at only 1247kg and so with its 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 has a power-to-weight ratio of 481PS/tonne. It comes with bespoke Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres, designed for track work. The body is 74mm longer than other Sports Series models with new carbon fibre bodywork including front splitter, side sills, extended diffuser and fixed rear wing. Inside there is also a weight loss campaign and the 600LT has extensive use of Alcantara and carbon fibre racing seats (originally seen on the P1). Prices start at £185,500, which includes a Pure McLaren Road Owner Track Day experience and driver training.

…AND SPEEDTAIL

It has been announced that the next McLaren in the company’s Ultimate Series, codenamed BP23, will actually be called the Speedtail. This new petrol/electric Hyper-GT will be revealed before the end of 2018 (with a private viewing for those that have already made a deposit against a build ahead of the general public). Only 106 will be built, they are all reserved, at a price of £1.6m (plus taxes).
