2019 MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS

The latest culmination of continuous motorsports development into supreme driving pleasure can be found in the latest pair of MINI John Cooper Works models. The MINI John Cooper Works 3 Door and MINI John Cooper Works Convertible have been recently updated with a host of improvements to take their unmistakeable combination of style and performance to new levels.

1 ADAPTIVE LED HEADLIGHTS WITH MATRIX FUNCTION

Thanks to the numerous styling updates that make the MINI John Cooper Works models stand out even more, the cars seem to look faster even when they’re not moving. One of the most noticeable new features is the adaptive LED headlights that are as clever a s they are stylish. For starters, the characteristic circular accents around the headlights are now even more expressive as they double as turn signals. When the driver engages the indicator, the ring of white light instantly turns to f lashing amber and back to white again once the manoeuvre has been completed.

The latest LED technology also enables the headlights to automatically adapt to the ambient lighting conditions and vary the brightness and intensity to optimal visibility and yet avoid dazzling on-coming traffic and pedestrians.

In high beam, the adaptive LED headlights also feature Matrix technology that makes a selective dip function possible. As soon as the MINI front camera registers an oncoming vehicle, these adaptive LED headlights will selectively illuminate the vehicles in front with a dip beam, while continuing to provide high beam illumination to the other areas in front where other road users will not be dazzled.

2 PIANO BLACK EXTERIOR

Another exterior highlight that sets the MINI John Cooper Works models apart is the piano Black Exterior option, where the surrounds of the head and rear lamps as well as the radiator grille and front intakes are finished in high gloss black instead of the traditional chrome.

3 NEW LEATHER TRIMS, INTERIOR SURFACES AND COLOUR LINES

Inside, the new MINI John Cooper Works models are available with a broad selection of seat and interior surfaces as well as Colour Lines.

To begin with, the new MINI John Cooper Works comes as standard with John Cooper Works sports seats with Dinamica/Leather combination upholstery.

Elsewhere, the interior panels are finished in piano black and come with illumination as standard where a stylised union Jack motif takes centre stage. Depending on the occupants’ mood or preference, the illuminated panel accents can be customised from a range of colours at a flick of a switch.

4 8-SPEED STEPTRONIC SPORTS TRANSMISSION

The new MINI John Cooper Works 3 Door and MINI John Cooper Works Convertible are fitted with a new 8-speed steptronic sports transmission as standard (ZF 8HP). This includes shift paddles at the steering wheel if the occasion calls for more spontaineous manual gear changes.

While the new gearbox offers improved drivability and optimises the power from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, it is also capable of delivering a smoother and more fuel efficient drive thanks to the availability of a coasting function in MID (default) and Green driving modes. To this end, the auto start/stop function now works in conjunction with the front camera as well as the navigation system to allow situations to be identified where switching the engine off may be appropriate or not. For example, when stopping briefly before making a turn or entering a roundabout, or if the traffic in front has started moving again.

5 TELEPHONY WITH WIRELESS CHARGING AND APPLE CARPLAY

The large central infotainment display is now touch sensitive or operable by the iDrive controller on the centre console. Additionally, Apple Carplay comes as standard on the new MINI John Cooper Works models. Last but not least, a storage compartment in the centre armrest is capable of wirelessly charging the latest smartphones and mobile devices that support this function, while a second USB socket is also included in the front section of the centre console.
