It smashed the Pikes Peak hillclimb record last summer, and now the Volkswagen ID. R will take on the ‘Green Hell’ this summer in its latest record-breaking challenge.
Unveiled at the end of April, the evolved ID. R features technology and aerodynamics derived from Formula 1 as well as a striking new blue and black livery.
The 680hp (500kW) electric drive system has been adapted to the very individual characteristics of the Nordschleife. The ID. R’s new aero package with a drag reduction system will allow a top speed of 167mph, and the car has an optimised energy management system to control the power output of the two electric motors and recovery of energy.
