Porsche has released an optional (7spd) seven-speed manual gearbox for the 911. The 2020 992-generation car has been sold exclusively with an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic so far, but the stick-shifter arrives in the UK in the first half of next year. It’s being offered first in the US, where there is increased demand for manuals from enthusiasts.
It’s offered on the mid-range Carrera S 992 and top-spec 4S 992 in coupé and cabriolet guises, and in the US is a no-cost option that also brings the Sport Chrono timing package, which includes uprated engine mounts, a sport suspension setting and a rev-match function.
The manual only saves 9kg off the weight of the car but also brings a mechanical limited-slip differential rather than the PDK cars’ electronic set-up.
