Ford took a bit of a hammering for reusing the old Puma coupe’s name on a new crossover-SUV, although the fact that it’s been winning all sorts of awards suggests that the new-wave Puma is a fairly decent thing. And what’s more, there’s a hot version on the horizon…
SPORTY FORD PUMA SPIED TESTING
The one you see in these pictures is the current ST-Line, a visually beefed-up spec level that you can find in the showrooms right now. But a few eagle-eyed spotters have seen barely-disguised versions of a full-fat Puma ST doing some real-world testing out on the road – its lower bodykit and twin tailpipes are very reminiscent of the Fiesta ST, and spy shots of it cocking a rear wheel suggest a chassis that’s nice and stiff. It’s noticeably lower and the brakes clearly bigger, and the rumour is that it’ll be running the same engine and transmission as the Fiesta ST. Which will mean it’ll be very, very good indeed.
