Mercedes-Benz Vans has confirmed all its commercial model lines will be offered with electric drive, beginning with the new Mercedes-Benz eVito.
The eVito has a claimed range of around 93 miles (150km) thanks to a 41.4kWh Li-ion battery. A choice of top speeds of either 50mph (80km/h) or 74mph (120km/h) will be offered. The van provides a payload of 1,073kg in a cargo volume of up to 6.6m3, with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3,200kg. Two wheelbases of 5,140mm or 5,370mm will be available initially. The eVito will be priced from €39,990+VAT in Germany (approx. £35,585).
Following the eVito will be the eSprinter in 2019 as well as the Renault-based Citan model thereafter. The vans are being built using a new strategy that involves customers early in the development stage in order to produce a product that will be desirable to them. The delivery company Hermes is one such customer, that has already placed a provisional order for 1,500 eVito and eSprinter vans by 2020.
