Finally, Tesla has taken the wraps off the new Tesla Roadster – the next generation of the company’s original sports model. Chief specifications include a 0-60mph time of 1.9 seconds and 0-100mph in a neck-breaking 4.2 seconds. “The fastest production car ever made. Period”, enthused Elon Musk. The quarter mile sprint can be completed in 8.9 seconds, “the first time any production car has broken 9 seconds over a quarter mile”, Musk added.
It has a more than 250mph top speed and a massive 200kWh battery pack, offering 620 miles range (at highway speed). An astonishing 10,000Nm of Torque comes from its three motors and all-wheel drive are key to enabling the car with these beyond supercar figures. And, it’s also a four seater with a removable targa roof plus, Tesla promises, lots of storage space. The car will be available in 2020 at a cost of $200,000 (approx. £151,700) base price, with the first 1,000 ‘Founders Series’ cars available for $250,000 (approx. £189,600). Base reservations cost $50,000 (approx. £37,900).
