Buy one, get one free – for a cool £7.2million – Italian design house Zagato celebrates its centenary in 2019

Legendary Italian design house Zagato celebrates its centenary in 2019, and to celebrate, it will renew its longstanding partnership with Aston Martin to create the ultimate two-car garage dubbed as the DBZ Centenary Collection.

Some 58 years after the brands first teamed up, they’re set to bookend that shared partnership by producing a novel old-and-new duo that will only be available as a pairing. Buyers will get a ‘Continuation’ version of the DB4 GT Zagato – based on one of the greatest and most valuable Aston Martin race cars – and the latest Zagato version of the recently launched DBS Superleggera. The aluminium-bodied DB4 GT Zagato will be built at the Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell – the original home of the DB4 – while the new DBS GT Zagato will be produced at Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters.

Just 19 DB4 GT Zagatos were produced in period, and that’s exactly how many pairs of the DBZ Centenary Collection will be made. The continuation will be hand-built using original techniques, and deliveries will began before the end of 2019. Like all continuations of its ilk though, it won’t be road legal. Owners will be able to drive the modern half of their dynamic duo on the public road, but they’ll have to wait until the end of 2020 to do so, as deliveries won’t start until then. Currently, the styling has only been hinted at with a rough drawing of the front end.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, said: “Zagato’s centenary demanded something extra special, and the Zagato Collection is just that: One car that pays tribute to a timeless icon; another that writes a fearless new chapter for future generations to admire.” If you want to get your hands on one of these pairings, it won’t come cheap. They will be priced at £6million plus local taxes, which works out as a cool £7.2million for UK buyers.
