FordFest revs up at Santa Pod

A brilliant turnout of blue oval enthusiasts descended upon Santa Pod Raceway on September 30 for FordFest – an event that’s fast becoming one of Britain’s favourite Ford-only events. To celebrate the iconic Sierra Sapphire Cosworth turning 30 this year, the organisers pulled together a nostalgic 30-car display of Cosworths from the last three decades, while Kelsey Media’s two blue oval magazines, Classic Ford and Fast Ford, both put together awe-inspiring displays.

One of the event’s biggest attractions was the RunWhat Ya Brung feature, which allowed showgoers to put their foot down by tearing up the newly re-laid Santa Pod strip. Also racing against the clock but in a different way was the Nankang Tyres Tyre Challenge, which saw competitors tasked with changing a front wheel in the quickest time possible. That accolade went to David Datoo, in a time of 20.81 seconds.

There were plenty of static highlights too, including the hotly-anticipated Show and Shine competition, won by Lewis Taylor with the Focus ST he nicknames ‘Tangerine Dream’. And, as always, there was a diverse range of cars from a variety of different communities in the club stand area.

Headline sponsor EBC Brakes was tasked with choosing the Best Club Display, and after an arduous process of deliberation they plumped for Simply Mustangs UK. Its display featured over 50 spotless Mustangs (after growing their club from just five cars in 2015), and it also took home the best One-Model Display trophy. Other winners included Kejja Motorsport for the Best Classic Club Display and Bedfordshire RS Owners’ Club, which took home the award for Best Regional Club Display.

The Retail Village was also jam-packed throughout the day, with show-goers taking advantage of a whole range of exclusive discounts and offers. But it was Stephen Tudor who surely had the best result, becoming the lucky new keeper of Classic Car Buyer’s Mk1 Mondeo after purchasing a raffle ticket for just £1. Over £250 was raised by the raffle, which will go to Mind, the mental health charity.

Want to be involved next year? Dates and ticket details for FordFest 2019 will appear on the show’s website www.fordfestshow.co.uk.

A host of immaculate classic Fords helped to light up this one-make event. Mustangs were gathered in number, with Simply Mustangs UK winning the Best Club Display. Stephen Tudor is the lucky new owner of our Mk1 Mondeo GLX.
