JLR donates sportbrake to homeless charity

Jaguar Land Rover employees have donated a new XF Sportbrake to West Midlands based homeless support charity, Midland Langar Seva Society.

This is the 22nd vehicle to be handed over to good causes across the Midlands and Merseyside by JLR employees, thanks to a unique charity scheme within the company that also donates funding to local community groups and charities selected by the workforce.

The Midland Langar Seva Society was established in Walsall in 2013 to provide basic hot food and drink to those living on the street. Today over 500 unpaid volunteers operate 365 days a year providing around 37,000 meals per month across the UK.

The charity also provides food to disadvantaged children within schools, feeds vulnerable people within safe houses and offers support packages to families who find themselves in food poverty.

Langar is the term used in the Sikh religion or in Punjab for a general or common kitchen / canteen where food is served for free, without prejudice, regardless of race, religion, or background. The donated Jaguar XF Sportbrake will help the Midland Langar Seva Society to offer support to the homeless and will allow them to transport volunteers and essential equipment to in-need areas across the West Midlands region. The car will also give the charity the ability to drive the homeless to attend medical appointments and access support services.

“On behalf of everyone here at Castle Bromwich I’d like to say it is an absolute privilege to be able to donate one of our Jaguar vehicles to such a terrific charity who clearly make a massive impact to people’s lives,” said Jamie Whitehead, operations director at Castle Bromwich. “We are sure our Sportbrake will serve them well in their mission to support the vulnerable within our local community.”
