Mike’s MGA to be revealed

Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer is set to be reunited with his MGA project at this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery.

After restoring an MGA on the show back in 2015, Mike fancied another and found this 1959 example in California during 2016. The car was duly shipped back to the UK where it found itself back at the gates of its birthplace when it was put on show at the MG Car Club’s Abingdon HQ, Kimber House. It was also displayed on the club’s stand at the NEC that year, where a public vote encouraged Mike to have the car restored rather than leave it as it was.

Since then the car has been with Rally Preparation Services in Witney for a full rebuild, with parts supplied by Moss Europe. RPS has been very busy building rally cars and accompanying them on various events, but it’s currently pulling out all the stops to get the A completed in time. The body has been painted, and the car is now being reassembled.

Under the bonnet, Mike has opted to go for an MGB-spec exchange engine for a bit more power.

Given the tight timescale involved, it’s lucky the MGA Mike found was an unusually solid example. “One of the best we’ve seen,” reckoned RPS managing director Simon Ayris.

The car will be on Mike’s stand, positioned by the live stage, with a representative from the MGCC on stage to talk about it on each day.

And, staying with the MGA theme, the club will be displaying a very special electric-powered example on its own stand. Created by Retro-EV in Finland, the stunning MGA-EV is a real showcase for what the future of classic cars may hold, and is very apt given the show’s ‘Built to Last’ theme.
