New Luton built Vauxhall Vivaro revealed

Vauxhall’s new Vivaro has just been revealed, heralding a bright future for the manufacturer’s Luton plant. Ready to land in dealer showrooms this summer, the third-gen cargo carrier is based on a state-of-the-art platform and available in two lengths (4.95m and 5.30m). Body styles include panel van, double cab (suitable for six occupants) and a platform chassis.

Priced from £21,240 excluding VAT, the Vivaro will be available in three trim levels: Edition, Sportive and Elite. Dual side sliding doors, twin airbags and cruise control are available as standard equipment, with Sportives offering colour-coded exterior furniture (door mirror cases, handles, side moulds), an alarm, automatic headlight illumination, an “acoustic” windscreen with automatic wipers and thickened side glazing. Nice!

The flagship Elite features all of the above, plus lane departure warning, speed limit information, intelligent speed adaptation, driver attention alert and blind spot detection. It’s safe to say the new Vivaro is a bit swisher than your mate’s rotten Bedford Midi.

A purely electric Vivaro is slated for release in 2020, another milestone on Vauxhall’s journey to electrifying the brand’s entire product line. The new load lugger will celebrate its world premiere at the CV Show in Birmingham on 30th April. “As a British brand since 1903 and the UK’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, we’re delighted to reveal the all-new Lutonbuilt Vivaro,” Derek Wilson, Vauxhall’s Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Director, told us.

“Practical, comfortable, economical and packed with all latest driver assistance and connectivity technology, the new Vivaro is the vehicle that sits firmly at the heart of our commercial product range.” Vauxhall’s owner, Groupe PSA, is the leader in European LCV business. The company intends to give Vauxhall sole responsibility for the global development of LCVs for the entire PSA family of brands. It looks like the lads and ladies in Luton are going to be kept very busy for the foreseeable future.
