New owner for British Drift Championship

After three years with David Egan at the helm, there’s a new name in charge of the BDC.

Slide Motorsport’s Matt Stevenson is the proud new owner of the British Drift Championship. The announcement was made at Rockingham Speedway in late October, at the last drift competition to take place at the circuit before it closes and the final round of the 2018 BDC season. It marks the end of David Egan’s three-year reign as BDC boss and opens up an exciting world of possibilities for the Championship moving forward.

Egan has guided the BDC to new levels of popularity. Drivers are nothing short of celebrities these days and a combination of pioneering measures, including autographsigning sessions, have catapulted them into the consciousness of regular motorsport fans. David leaves the BDC in a strong position, admitting that part of his thinking behind the move is that the British Drift Championship should have a British CEO. The Irishman intends to remain CEO of the Irish Drift Championship, opening the door to big ‘UK vs Ireland’ drift events in the near future, with national pride on the line!

Matt Stevenson is a name familiar to anyone who is already involved in the BDC. As the name suggests, his company Slide Motorsport specialises in preparing drift cars. In fact, Slide Motorsport picked up third place in the Constructors Championship at Rockingham, with team member Jason Clark picking up the Most Improved Driver Award. While the overall BDC drivers’ title was won by Duane McKeever, who is also the reigning IDC champion, too.

Matt and his Slide Motorsport team are promising ‘big things’ for the BDC in 2019. We can’t wait to see what a fresh set of eyes will do for the already very successful championship.

IN A STATEMENT ON THE BDC WEBSITE, DAVID EGAN SAYS:
