Pie Valley Buggies recently displayed its updated range of chassis, steering and suspension upgrades for the plethora of Beetle based kits, both new and old, at Stoneleigh. The new range includes an updated version of the VAG 1.8T mid-mounted platform, a new ‘old school’ Beetle based chassis and an adjustable double wishbone replacement front subframe for standard Beetle floorpans.
Pie Valley’s Beetle Upgrades
When the turbo chassis made its debut last year, Pie Valley founder Ed Morton was inundated with questions as to whether the sports orientated platform could be fitted to Porsche 356 replica builds. In response to the demand, the Pie Valley team has fitted its new demonstrator chassis with the Speedster Clinic front subframe and is currently constructing a replica kit around the platform.
In addition to the turbo chassis, Pie Valley also unveiled its new retro Beetle engined chassis which is aimed more at the purist end of the Porsche replica market. Built around a late Beetle beam-axle front-end and a mid-mounted Beetle engine, the new chassis is suitable for both Porsche 550 Spyder and 718 RSK replicas and benefits from a modern Z-axle independent rear suspension set-up.
The final and perhaps most notable addition to the range is the replacement front Beetle subframe which can simply bolt onto a standard Beetle floorpan, allowing you to upgrade any Beetle floorpan to a fully adjustable double wishbone front suspension set-up. Nearly ready for release, the new kit has also recently surpassed the industry standard 2.5-ton failure test which replicates a 5g head-on collision. W: www.pievalleybuggies.co.uk
