The popular Renault Kadjar SUV will get a subtle makeover to its styling, updates to the technology and quality improvements when it arrives in UK showrooms early next year. For 2019, the Kadjar will gain a wider grille, reprofiled bumpers and finishing touches like redesigned wheels and exterior lighting. Here, LED technology takes over, giving the daytime running lights, indicators, headlamps and even the fog lights a sleek new look. Renault also claims energy consumption is six times lower versus the halogen items fitted before. Three new paint colours called Oural Green, Iron Blue and Highland Grey will also be available.

Inside, the emphasis has been on quality and technology, with the latest R-Link 2 infotainment system adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Its seven-inch touchscreen has also been enhanced and there are new air vents and backlit air-conditioning controls. New interior colours and upholstery with stitching, a textured effect and Alcantara will also be available. Comfort has been improved with redesigned seats, new door trims with larger storage bins and improved ventilation for back seat passengers, while larger centre cupholders have also been added to boost convenience on the move.

Its diesel engines have been revised and fitted with emission-reducing SCR technology, with 1.5-litre Blue dCi 115 and 2.0-litre Blue dCi 150 offering customers two power levels. The former has 5bhp more than previously and will be available with a manual gearbox first, with a twin-clutch EDC automatic arriving later. The range-topping 2.0-litre unit replaces the 1.6 dCi engine in the current car, has 20bhp more power, and will be offered with a manual gearbox and front or four-wheel drive. The former will be offered with an ‘Extended Grip’ system, providing mud and snow tyres and uprated traction control to improve grip in slippery conditions.
