Vauxhall teases new family face

Vauxhall has released a teaser picture ahead of a major shift in its styling and brand direction that’s planned for the mid-2020s. Dubbed 20:20S, the design philosophy will embrace Vauxhall’s core values – “British, Ingenious, Progressive and Approachable” and provides a template for the design of its upcoming models.

It’s expected that 20:20S will take a significant proportion of its inspiration from the 2016 Vauxhall GT Concept, a small coupé that appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in the same year. Its design was based on a ‘bold and pure’ philosophy that meant it had simple surfaces, strong proportions and minimal interruption between its glass and body panels.

As part of the PACE! strategy introduced under PSA Group ownership, Vice President of Vauxhall Design, Mark Adams, says he has taken another look at Vauxhall’s design philosophy and how it relates to the manufacturer’s core values, commenting, “We are a proud British brand and design inspiration is all around us in the UK – from the bold ingenuity of James Dyson to the pure designs of Jonathan Ive – and this concept will embody that.”

One element of the teaser shot that has been confirmed, is the so-called ‘compass’. This is Vauxhall’s name for a new front design that places the Griffin badge in the centre-crease line, between bold LED daytime running lights, and it’s likely this will become the new family face of Vauxhall models. Group boss, Stephen Norman, added: “Customers are our compass, too, so for them to instantly relate to our vehicles at an emotional level is vital.”

“Customers are our compass…”
