Compact griffin to be launched with optional electric engine
Vauxhall has released a teaser image of the all-new Corsa, one of the most hotly anticipated new cars to go on sale in 2019. The new supermini will take Electric Vehicle (EV) motoring into the mainstream with a battery-powered model, an exciting development intended to sit alongside traditional combustion engine variants in the Corsa line-up.
The new model’s IntelliLux LED headlights are a segment first, providing drivers with adaptive, glare-free illumination. This pioneering technology is ordinarily only fitted to premium-spec Astras and Insignias. It’s a clever system, where oncoming traffic and the car in front are simply ‘cut out’ of the illuminated area, thereby promoting optimum visibility.
“As a British brand since 1903, Vauxhall is the UK’s oldest car maker, and one recognised for its work presenting cutting-edge automotive technology at an affordable price,” says Stephen Norman, Vauxhall’s recently appointed Group Managing Director. “With the new Corsa, we’re doing it not once, but twice, electrifying the UK’s best-known compact car and adding lighting technology normally the reserve of our flagship Griffins.”
An electric Corsa isn’t the only fully charged Vauxhall to hit dealer showrooms in the not too distant future; the Battery Electric Version (BEV) of the evergreen hatchback will be joined by the Grandland X PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) SUV. Order books for both new Vauxhalls open shortly.
The Corsa has been Vauxhall’s best-selling car for many years, shifting 2.1-million units in the UK since 1993. Overseas, the model is even more popular, with 13.5-million units sold in Europe to buyers fond of each successive generation of Corsa’s compact dimensions, good looks, sports options and tidy interior packaging.
